The show premiered at the Teatro Ventidio Basso in Ascoli Piceno on 4 January 2011. Yasmina Reza, the well-known French playwright and writer, wrote this play in 1994. Translated into 30 languages, it has won many awards and been performed in theatres all over the world.
The comedy raises questions about art and friendship, revolving around three long-standing friends: Serge, Marc and Yvan. Indulging his passion for modern art, Serge has bought a very expensive painting, around which the three friends' debate on the meaning of abstract art, compared with more representational and traditional art, will revolve. Beneath the surface, the play explores with irony the depth and complexity of friendship.
