Martin Crimp is considered one of the most interesting contemporary playwrights: with great control and theatrical intelligence he offers a brilliant and convincing critical view of postmodern society. At its English premiere this enigmatic and fascinating play won extraordinary acclaim from audiences and critics. The lead is played by Laura Morante, a refined and admired artist able to take on intense roles with particular sensitivity. After her recent film successes as both director and actress, she returns to the stage where she began very young, playing an unforgettable Ophelia in Carmelo Bene's Hamlet. The male lead is Gigio Alberti, a versatile and established actor much loved by audiences. The show is directed by one of Italy's best-known and most admired directors, Roberto Andò.

“Reading The Country, first in Alessandra Serra's fine translation and then in the English original, confirmed for me that this is a first-rank author with the gift of masterly writing. In the country house where he brings together the three characters of his play – Corinne, Richard and Rebecca – Crimp sets the mystery in motion from an incident that precedes the action. Richard has found a young woman unconscious in the road and brought her home; Corinne suspects he already knew her, and from there, step by step, the audience learns that the couple has long been held hostage by another disturbing guest. A story of lies, of people bound by inexplicable submission and murky, unbalanced attractions; a love story between a man and a woman waiting for redemption.”
