The show premiered at the Teatro Sanzio in Urbino on 2 March 2010. A breathless monologue, a single sentence, a bursting river of words, a series of moments that leave no escape. Rain falls; a man from the outskirts of every city tries to recognise himself in a visionary night world. He speaks a language of repetitions and paraphrases, and his words strike hard, like a boundless desire to escape. Being a foreigner, feeling a stranger, looking for a room for the night – for part of the night at least – approaching a friend, a girl, seeing a prostitute who looks out of tune, struggling between the difficulty of being and the craving to live, while memory, nostalgia and anger surface, along with the rain that keeps returning as a symbol. The forest – that of distant Nicaragua, an idyllic land without armies or control – in the story of an unbridled race in pursuit of a dream.
“Being a foreigner. Approaching a new young friend in the rain… Carrying in your heart a girl of the night, a riverside ectoplasm. Hating mirrors. Loving mad whores…”
A rigorous score between the metaphorical word that becomes tangible and the body that cannot avoid existing at every moment. Breathless. A foreigner trying to recognise himself in a different world where memory, nostalgia and anger surface… the rain as a symbol that keeps returning.
I wanted to recreate a 'night' world through projected video images, a true virtual installation that gives the show a visionary feel. A journey of words and gestures that hold Koltès' poetics in the air. Photographs are free of publication rights for press use. Please always credit the photographer: ph. Pino Le Pera
